Appy Monday! NCT Babychange App

We've all been there - your baby has filled their nappy with something less than fragrant, and yet you are nowhere near any decent changing facilities as far as you know. Of course we all tend to carry portable changing mats but it is not always easy to get them out in a crowded street, restaurant or public place if the weather is bad or if you feel like it will be frowned upon by a non parent crowd. This is where this handy little app from the trusty NCT comes in.

Using geo-location technology, one click of this free app can tell you where your nearest changing facility is and if others have used it there is a rating system where they can comment on the hygiene levels of the facility and whether they would use it again. You can also upload facilities you know about to share with other people.

What we loved: The app is very intuitive and simple to use which is good given that you won't want to spend time working out how to use it in moments of emergency! The rating system is great and simple to use.You can also upload new facilities easily. Overall a very handy app to have in your back pocket!

What we didn't: Coverage is sketchy so in some areas there are not a lot of facilities yet. As this relies on people to upload new facilities it might take some time before it is really useful. Some more pre-loading of data might have been a good idea.

We also think it would be useful to have more data as well as babychange facilities such as high chairs supplied, breastfeeding friendly cafes etc and wonder if NCT have any plans to grow the app.

I wasn't too impressed with this app. I tried to add the Arts Depot a few times but gave up as it was too hard, kept crashing, and required me to know too much info, e.g. postcode. Surely they could just find the Arts Depot using Google Maps functionality once I'd entered the name.

Plus, as far as I can tell, you can only look for facilities in your current area. Not great if you are travelling and want to check ahead.

All good points. We found it fairly useful in town but less so around here. We found it ok to add places if you are there though.
