Stars in the making - drama and storytelling classes for children in North London


There's a whole range of drama and storytelling sessions available in North London to entertain our little drama queens (and kings!). Here's our pick of classes which you can drop-in or join now- with some updates to our listing of pre-book classes too.

Perform offers drama classes for a range of age groups. Mini -Ps for children aged 3 months- 3 years offers catchy songs, fun games and colourful props. Sessions are divided between Starters, Walkers and Talkers.  Perform for children aged 4-8 mixes energetic games, tuneful songs and improvisations. Perform Plus for 8- 12 year olds combines drama dance and singing with theatre professionals. We have listed a selection of sessions which take place across north London but it is worth checking the website for additional dates, locations and times.



Debutots is a unique blend of interactive storytelling and dramatic play for children aged 6 months to 7 years. Baby story play for children 6 months- 2 years uses fun interactive stories to engage the whole class to explore the story, its scenery, characters and sounds, with a different story every week.  Early Years Drama classes for 2 to 7 year olds are designed to take children into an imaginary world where they can explore feelings, words, sounds and movement. Classes are held in Finchley, Muswell Hill and Hampstead- details below and here.

Dreambox offers an imaginative adventure through singing, storytelling, drama and bubbles. The classes are aimed at pre-schoolers, 18 months+.  See class details below. 
Ready Steady Go offers a creative sessions for toddlers combining dance, drama and music. The sessions take place at the Primrose Hill Community Centre, 29 Hopkinsons Place, London NW1 8TN on Monday 10.15-11am ( 15 months-3 years), Wednesday 10.15-11am (15 months-3 years) and Thursday 9.45-10.45am ( 6-15 months).


Theatrebugs was established in 2005 by two LAMDA graduates as a means for children to learn through play. Aimed for children 12 months +, Theatrebugs combines singing, drama, music and dance into one action-packed, 45 minute long adventure. Each term is themed and so each week the children go on a different journey, singing songs, dancing, shaking shakers and meeting puppets along the way! Classes are available Tuesday to Friday in Temple Fortune and Mill Hill-see listings below or check out the website for days and times.

Monday



Jabberjacks  offers a unique combination of puppets and music, delivered against a background of drama and play to help little ones develop physical and social skills, confidence and knowledge. Classes take place Monday 10 am Muswell Hill Methodist Church, Holly Room, 28 Pages Lane, N10 1PP and are run on a drop in pay as you go basis.

Dramavision, is created and taught by Dina Leander and Marianne Harris, professional children’s theatre leaders, who believe in the joy of song, music and dance for little ones. The classes are aimed at children 22 months to 4 years and includes original music, specially designed for little movers before and classic and original stories brought to life with puppets, props and sensory play! The class takes place in Muswell Hill: Quaker Meeting House, Church Crescent, N10 5NE (10.30am-11.20am) Cost: £96 for the 12-week term,  £8 for a trial- join at anytime in the term and pay for the remaining sessions.

Mini-Ps sessions from Perform take place in Hampstead Garden Suburb Free Church Northway, Hampstead Garden Suburb, London, NW11 7AG at the following times: Starters 11.40-12.30, Walkers 10-10.35, Talkers 10.45-11.35.

Debutots class for 2-4 years takes place 10- 10.50  and for 6 months to 2 years from 10.55 to 11.45 at Friends Meeting House, 120 Heath Street, Hampstead, London NW3 1DR. Debutots Classes for 2- 4 years are also run at Muswell Hill Methodist Church, 28 Pages Lane, Muswell Hill, London N10 1PP from 3.15 to 3.55 and 4- 4.40. 

Tuesday


Showstoppers is hosting a new Mini Showstoppers class for children aged 3 to 6 between 4.30 and 5.30pm on a pay as you go basis at the Freehold Commnity Centre Muswel Hill. More details here.

Debutots class for 2-4 years takes place Union Church, Weston Park, London, N8 9TA from 9.35- 10.25 for children 1.5 to 3 years. Classes also take place at Arts Depot, 5 Nether Street, Tally Ho Corner, Finchley, London N12 0GA for 2- 4 years (10-10.50) and 6 months- 2 years (10.55- 11.45).

Pop Up Tales is  in Crouch End at the Rokesly Children's Centre. A storytelling class for babies and toddlers at 10.30am.


Wednesday

Perform classes take place at Trinity Church Centre 15 Nether Street, North Finchley, London, N12 7NN  from 4- 5 and 5-6pm. Trinity Church Centre

Theatrebugs hosts a class in Mill Hill 10 – 10.45am at Mill Hill East Church, Salcombe Gardens, NW7 2NT

Thursday

Dreambox classes take place 10-10.45 at 128 Crouch Hill London N8 9DY, and in the afternoon 3.30- 4.15 for pre-schoolers and 4.30- 5.15 Reception and Year 1 at 100 Acres, 84 Heath Street, Hampstead.

Theatrebugs hosts a class in  Temple Fortune 12.30 – 1:15pm  at Alyth Synagogue Hall, Alyth Gardens, NW11.

Friday

The fabulous Arts Depot hosts Theatre Bugs each Friday 10 to 10.45.


Mini Music from Haringey Shed takes place 10:30 – 11:15 am  and encourages little ones (2-4) to learn music through storytelling, natural play and movement! "Stomp like bears, scamper like squirrels, and become part of a theatrical journey through a jungle of music and song". £3 per week.

Debutots classes take place at Muswell Hill Methodist Church, 28 Pages Lane, Muswell Hill, London N10 1PP for 2-4 years (9.30-10.25), 6months- 2 years (10.30- 11.25) and  2-4 years (11.30- 12.25).
Dreambox class also takes place 9.45am - 10.30am, That Place on the Corner, Green Lanes, Newington Green, N16 9BS.

Saturday


Chickenshed Theatre in Southgate has Saturday Shed, an exciting and creative weekly workshop in which you can learn Street Dance, to dance like Michael Jackson and Diversity or to perform like Glee. Saturday Shed is for anyone between the ages of 6-12
