Week Ahead: 12 September

All Week

This week is Haringey Children's Literature Festival taking place at venues all over the borough and with a lovely line up of authors, storytelling, workshops and shows. Full timetable here


Classes resume at Swiss Cottage's Huggle. We've included our favourites in the listings below but you can check out full listings here. Most classes have to be booked in advance.


It's back to normal too in Newington Green at That Place On The Corner, a great range of classes and always open for yummy food and a great place to hang out with the kids.We've included our favourites in the listings below but full timetable here.


In North West London, there is the fab Gracelands Yard, which as well as hosting a range of great classes has a lovely and family friendly cafe.  We've included our favourites in the listings below but you can see full timetable here.

There is a drop in at the Peggy Jay Centre on Parliament Hill at 10am and 1pm.  Indoor and outdoor play. Free.

West London Tots are running classes al week at The Alice House in Queens Park. Classes include Rock-a-bye Babies, Baby Massage, Sing and Sign, Yoga Babies, Pregnancy Yoga and Diddi Dance. Monday



There is storytime at Big Green Bookshop in Wood Green at 11am. Free coffee and flapjacks for all. This event happens Monday, Wednesday and Friday at this lovely bookshop. All welcome.

Al's Little Singers a new and lovely music group for little ones is meeting at the Clissold Arms on Fortis Green (105 Fortis Green, London N2 9HR). Start time is 10.45am for 11am. .



The fantastic Eddy is playing his eeny meeny music at 9.15, 10.15 and 11.15 in Muswell Hill. Full details here.

Arty Hands has a weekly sessions at 10am for pre-school toddlers with arts and crafts based around a weekly theme and regular messy play activities. Come down and have fun with your toddler. England's Lane Bookshop in Hampstead has storytime at 11am for under 5s.  Come along for stories and rhymes.

Kilburn Library has songs in a circle at 2.00pm for babies.
Swiss Cottage Library has Rhyme Time 10.30am for under 5s.
Muswell Hill Library has Rhyme Time at 11am. 
Stroud Green Library has Messy Afternoon Craft Activity 2-3pm for under 5s.
Marcus Garvey Library has Story Time and Sing Along 10.30am.


Tuesday


Butterfly World Project in St Albans has Time for Splodgers at 10.15 and 11.15, an art class that encourages children to get creative. 

That Place On The Corner has a drop in Arts and Crafts Session for 4+ at 4pm.

From Tuesday 6 September, the Creation Station, Lawn Road, N3, Hampstead, runs a weekly exploration Arts and Crafts Session  for 1 to 5 year olds from 10.10 to 11. Classes can be booked in advance or can be attended on a drop-in basis for £8.


At Gracelands Yard in Kensal Rise, there is Toddler Picassos for 15 months to 3 years at 9.30 and 10.30 and Mini Picassos for 5-7 years at 4pm and 8-12 year olds at 5pm. Children get to explore their creativity and the older ones will create masterpieces, all under the eye of an experienced art teacher. Little Hands Design run sewing classes in Belsize Park for children 4-5.30 and 5.30-7 - the skills that are taught include sewing by hand, using a sewing machine, draping and measuring, use of ready-made sewing patterns as well as pattern making and free design. Children will learn to develop their own design ideas and style by choosing their favourites from our own designs to get started. Tools and fabrics are supplied, but they encourage all children to develop expertise and experience in selecting their own materials. Drop in sessions can be booked if you email or call. The lovely Emporium on Fortis Green Road, East Finchley, has an after school crafts club at 4pm for 5+. This 5 week course costs £60 and starts 20th September. More details here

Belsize Library has Rhyme Time for under 4s at 11am.
Regents Park Library has Baby Bounce at 10.30am.
West Hampstead Library has a children's craft activity session for 3-8s at 4pm.
 
Wednesday


Gail's Artisan Bakery, in Crouch End is hosting a storytime in association with Hornsey Library at 3pm.  Join them for a magical hour of storytelling plus free milk and cookies. Yum. Most suited for 3+ but bring the whole family along. This is running every Thursday. Full details here. North London Mums thinks it is great to see a business supporting the community and libraries in this way. Hurray for Gail's and their lovely cakes.

Amanda's Action Club has a drop in class at Huggle at 9.30am and 10.30am. 

 

Caterpillar Music is running a drop in session at Butterfly World, St Albans. There will be songs, puppets, colourful instruments and lots of surprises. For babies and children 0-4 years.

Green Peas  offers nature and eco focussed messy play for children aged 1 to 4 years, from 2.30  to 3.30, Friends Meeting House, N10. Classes are £6.50 to drop in or £42 for a 7 week term. Each week focusses on a different skill such as painting or collage making, and use natural materials.


Kentish Town City Farm has a fab sounding after school pottery club. Mould, sculpt, stretch, pummel and play with clay. Suitable for all ages, this highly successful pottery club has now been runnning for five years at the farm. 4pm-5pm, cost £1.50.

100 Acres on Heath Street in Hampstead is running a drop in art class at 9.30am for 1.5+ and an after school art club for older children at 3.30pm. 

There is a drop in at The Alice House in Queen's Park for parents of newborns to six months, run by Kate Clarke an antenatal teacher from Birth and Baby Wise and the NCT. 10.30-12.30 every fortnight. £3 plus refreshments.  Dates - 14 September, 28 September, 12 October, 9 November, 23 November and 7 December.

Thursday

There is Baby Creative Dance 2.15pm at Newington Dance Space on Stoke Newington Church Street. Suitable for babies from 3 months to crawling. £5 per class. Drop in. More details here.


 From Thursday 8 September, the Creation Station, St. Mary's Hall, Hendon Lane, Finchley runs a weekly Exploration Arts and Crafts Session  for 1 to 5 year olds from 10.10 to 11. Classes can be booked in advance or can be attended on a drop-in basis for £8.

From Thursday 15 September, ArtyCraftKids at Totteridge Tennis Club is holding messy play sessions from 10- 10.50 and 11- 11.50am. a Free taster session is available at £7, after which yo need to book half a term in advance at £6.50 per session. The sessions are planned to help children explore colour, shape, texture and pattern through a wide range of art and craft experiences. Children are encouraged to wander from activity to activity to allow them to explore at their own pace.


Fine Arts 4 Kids runs after school classes teaching fine art skills  at Middle Lane Methodist Church, Crouch End, N8 8NT between 4.00-5.00 or 5.15-6.15.The cost is £54 for a 6 week course.

Culture Kids run art classes at Pizza Express in Hampstead at 10, 11, 12, 2, 3 and 4pm for 2-6 year olds. Each week there a different theme and carefully planned-out class. Like Culture Kids, each class is about the wonderful world around us.You can join the class at any stage but then need to pay for the rest of the term as this class is not available as a drop-in. Cost is £15 per session.  Full details here.

Green Man Community Centre, East Finchley has a stay and play messy play 9.30-11.30 for 0-5s. Cost £1 per child.

Messy Play at the Arts Depot, North Finchley, runs weekly each Thursday for under 2s at 10am and 11.15 and over 2s at 2pm. £5.Book in advance. This glass is really interactive and fun but be prepared to get really messy! Arts Depot has really increased its children's classes offer recently, so do click here to see the excellent timetable. We'll be featuring more of their classes in this series of posts. We are big fans.

The Made-By-Me Mum's Club at Gracelands Yard is running for a further 3 weeks, every Thursday afternoon, 2 - 3.15pm. In this week's craft class you'll make a wooden name plaque for your little ones door or cot. And the best bit is you can bring your baby with you.

Exhaust the kids at the fab Zumbatomic - a zumba class for children aged 4-12 in Finchley at 4pm.


Crafty Tots takes place at Woodfield Road, New Barnet, on Fridays 10-11. Aimed at children 18 months to 5 years, the session offers a variety of Messy Play activities ranging from Playdough, paint and glue to using pippettes, fabrics, clean mud, crazy foam. Classes are limited to 12 children. Regular Members: £6 per class, pre-paid Half Termly, drop in (subject to space) is £7 per class.
