Friday Finds - very nice things to buy, eat and do

Every Friday starting this week we will bring you lovely local gems that we have found in North London that we think you might not know about already. We will seek out and bring to you the nicest parks, shops, classes, restaurants and things to do. Don't be too surprised if a lot of our finds are food related...! We will continue to bring you a website of the week as well, introducing you to a company that you might not hear about otherwise.

This week our finds are:

Website of the Week

We have a really great website to introduce to you this week called (appropriately) Very Nice Things. This is just the kind of website that we could lose ourselves in for hours as it sources and sells beautiful, good quality products from the UK and Europe that you wouldn't otherwise find. They have a great range of things for decorating children's rooms including some absolutely gorgeous nursery prints that we just can't resist and some great ideas for storage that will keep rooms tidy and stylish.

The website is very nicely designed and simple to use and we can attest that the custmer service is excellent and makes them a pleasure to deal with. So, if you need a present for a new baby, an old baby, yourself or someone else, do check this lovely website out.

Very Nice Things have been kind enough to offer a really great discount to North London Mums readers of 15% off until the end of November! Just use code nlmums when paying. Enjoy!

Local Gems

Our first find this week is  Redwood Cafe at Swan Lane Open Space - we only just found this lovely park in Woodside Park as the summer came to a close, despite driving past it very regularly. Swan Lane itself is a very peaceful park with a great play area and the cafe is the icing on the cake (literally) as it is family owned and run and the owner's mother makes all the delicious cakes herself. We highly recommend the courgette and lime cake, which may sound strange but is absolutely amazing. The cafe is near enough to the playground that you can sit and relax whilst children play nearby. The playground is about to be redeveloped but has quite good facilities already.

The Hilly Kitchen in Muswell Hill is another recent find of ours, which we discovered when visiting Zebra Ceramics last week. This restaurant is light and spacious, with a small outside space and a good kids menu.

Al's Little Singers - this week we visited this music class in East Finchley which takes place at the Clissold Arms on Monday and Wednesday at 10am and 11am. The pub host it very nicely and there are free muffins and croissants to have along with the good coffee and teas. Toys are put out for the children to play with before the start of the class, which makes it easy to settle them in. Al then sings a range of familiar songs whilst strumming along on her guitar and my little one really enjoyed it. This is a really nice class in a pleasant venue. Contact Al on 07968 869388 or email at alexandraclyons@gmail.com. Cost £4 or £5 for two or more siblings. Suitable for children up to aged 4.

Got a restaurant, shop or class that you think we might like to visit? Let us know and maybe you will feature in Friday Finds soon.
