This Weekend: Roll up! Roll up! Puppets, poetry, horses and a whole lot of fun

This weekend the circus is coming to town but if that's not your thing, there are loads of other things going on too. Puppets, teddy bears, poetry, trains - London has got it all going on! Enjoy.

All Weekend

Zippos Circus is coming to town (Wood Green) and bringing its Horsepower show that brings all things horsey and circusy together in one fantastic show. What's more, you can get a great deal on tickets if you book through the excellent Littlebird who are offering tickets at a 51% discount.

Little Angel Theatre has the Da Silva Marionette Circus which has been delighting audiences of all ages, around the world, for almost half a century.

London Transport Museum has the Depot Family Open Weekend.Visitors can explore behind the scenes at London Transport Museum Depot, Acton over the weekend.There are family activities all weekend including craft workshops, make and take and storytelling.


Somerset House has a family workshop for 6-12s. Arrive at 1pm to collect your ticket, workshops starts at 2pm. This week the topic is Colour Blocking - make two dimensions into three! Choose a favourite painting in The Courtauld Gallery and explore colour and space by turning it into a sculpture. FREE.

British Museum has a Teddy Bear's Picnic as part of The Big Draw Festival, 11am-4pm in the Great Court. Bring along your own bear and draw it having a picnic with Museum objects that have inspired the exhibition Grayson Perry: The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman.

Lauderdale House in Highgate has a children's puppet show at 10am called Henry and The Bear from Mars. Henry the Hedgehog sees stars when a spaceship lands in the woods!

Laura's Star
Phoenix Cinema Kids Club in East Finchley is showing Laura's Star at 12pm with children's activities beforehand if you arrive at 11am.

Theatretrain Highgate is holding an Open Day! Come along to Brookfield School on the 8th October for a free trial! Classes in singing dancing and drama for young people. Contact details here.

The Hackney & Islington NCT Nearly New Sale will be held on Saturday 8th October from 2-4pm at St Joan of Arc Centre, Kelross Road, N5 (Arsenal/Highbury). We still have some tables left for anyone wanting to sell any unwanted, good quality baby clothes and goods (£20 hire fee). Drama Dudes runs every Saturday at Pembroke Road Church, N10. The 1st class is free. 4-7s at 10am, 8-11s at 12.15pm, 12-15s at 2.30pm. You can join at any point during the term. Contact Rachel on 07968 830589 for details. 

Tales From The Shed
Chickenshed Theatre has the fantastic Tales from The Shed, an hour long performance for children aged 0-7 that is thoroughly enjoyable and Saturday Shed a theatre workshop for 6-8s and 8-12s. We went to Tales from The Shed last week and had a thoroughly good time.


North London Mum's favourite Jacksons Lane in Highgate is showing The Way Back Home for one day only at 3pm. We will be there! Based on the book by the award winning author of Lost and Found, this tells the story of one boys exciting trip to the moon and back, and is suitable for ages 3+.

Poetry Challenge, is happening at The October Gallery in Bloomsbury at 2.30pm. People, aged 8 to 80, can share this unique opportunity to recite a favourite poem by heart.

Michael Rosen, former Children's Laureate is performing Nonsense at Kings Place with  the Homemade Orchestra combining to produce a glorious flurry of poetry and jazz, mixing words of nonsense with melodies, improvs, the whirring of toy cars and wailing solos. 11am.
