Appy Monday! Toca Boca Take Two

A few weeks ago we reviewed the fantastic Toca Boca apps for children. Although we regularly scour the app store for new and exciting apps, we are yet to find anything quite as creative as these apps, made in Sweden, which essentially turn your iPad into the most fun toy around. Lucky for us then that there are two new Toca Boca apps on the market and we review them for you today.

Those familiar with Toca Boca apps already will love Toca Store. It has all of the features we have come to expect - really great visuals, highly interactive and allows children to use their imagination at the same time.

Children can either take the role of shopkeeper or customer (or both) and chose what to sell in the store and what to buy. The app will also teach them about numbers and counting as they count out the money and ring it in to the till.

What we loved: This app looks great and is intuitive and easy to learn to use as well as being really great fun for children to play. It can keep them engaged for hours as they can sell different things in the shop each time and chose from a really wide range.

What we didn't: Hmmm. Hard to think of anything! My daughter just loves playing this.

Vital Stats:
Cost - £1.49
Availability - iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch

The other new app from Toca Boca is the Toca Parenting's Birthday Party, which is a collaboration with Parenting Magazine.

Anyone who has the fantastic Toca Tea Party will be very familiar with this app, which is essentially the same but with the added element of the tea party being a birthday party so there are presents to open and party poppers to pop.

Although we liked this, and my daughter was pleased to play with it initially, she wasn't that excited about it because it is so very similar to tea party which she has already played and played and played and played and.....you get the picture!

What we loved: The presents to open are great and the party poppers fun. Most of the fun elements of the tea party app are here and we absolutely loved that pp.

What we didn't: We would have liked to see more here to differentiate it from tea party - how about some party music to chose from, some party games such as pass the parcel (too English?) or some other fun things to do. As it is it isn't different enough from tea party to justify spending the money on. For a very creative and fun birthday party game try Peppa Pig's Party Time instead where you can help Peppa to bake her cake, make her party bags and post her invitations before hosting the party with her. This is really a super app.

Vital Stats:
Cost - £1.49
Availability - iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch

Do you know of any apps that rival the creativity of Toca Boca? Do share.
Also we would love someone to review some android apps for us as we are both apple fanatics. Do let us know if you'd like to guest review and help other android parents.
