Competition Time! Tales from the Big Shed the Chickenshed Theatre!

If you are looking for engaging theatre experiences for your little ones, or an unusual birthday party, then the Chickenshed Theatre in Southgate offers unique opportunities for interactive, creative theatre. We review our recent trip to the theatre and we have also teamed up with Chickenshed with a great offer!

Chickenshed Theatre is a unique theatre company which operates an inclusive creative process which values all its members as equals. It is a national charity raising over £3 million every year, and its work encompasses a theatre company, youth workshops, outreach projects and education programmes. They make "extraordinary, pioneering, challenging, dynamic, moving, groundbreaking, genuinely inclusive, beautiful theatre."

North London Mums took North London Toddlers a couple of weeks ago to see Tales from the Shed - a show aimed at children from babies to 7 years. We loved it.

The shows are an introduction to a universe where children and performers go on a theatrical journey together, and along the way, meet characters such as Can-Can the beautiful bird and The Thing That Goes Blurgh! Fun, colour, magic, sing-a-longs and much more.

The show breaks down the boundaries of traditional theatre as it is completely interactive, with children encouraged to join in dancing, singing, cuddling the characters as the show progresses. The story takes you on a journey through a number of scenes or "tales" and each one features a different song or dance which children are encouraged to join in with. Different members of the colourful ensemble company narrate the tales, along with a number of mad puppets and lifesize characters which the children love. Most children found something which particularly grabbed their attention and excitement to jump up and join in. There's educational stuff too, with songs about shapes and dances about numbers. We particularly love the journey round the world, with encounters with the starry sky and the watery sea. And of course the childfriendly hip-hop at the end!

Chickenshed is housed in a lovely purpose built building in Southgate, with a large and clean bar/eating area plus outdoor play area. There is a party package on Saturdays when child-friendly shows are running. This includes reserved tables, and a good selection of children's food. The Tales cast even lead the singing of Happy Birthday!

Although the current run of Tales from the Shed has ended, you can look forward to Christmas Tales running from 21 to 23 December. This promises to be a "full-on family Talesomime (a pantomime starring all your favourite Tales characters). It’s gonna be high energy, hi-jinxing fun "Oh no, it's not! Oh yes it is!" For the first time ever they’ll be taking the show on the road! On Monday 19 December and Tuesday 20 December Christmas Tales will be performed at the Dugdale Centre in Enfield Town, EN2 6DS!

The next Tales shows at Chickenshed Theatre in Southgate will be on Saturday 10 December and Saturday 17 December. The shows are called Tales from the Big Shed as the team move into the larger theatre for this very special show. We’ve got two tickets to give away for a showing of your choice. All you need to do is email info@northlondonmums.com with the answer the following question: "What date is Christmas day?" . The closing date is 21 November 2011.

By entering this competition you agree to be included in our mailing list and to us sharing your email address with Chickenshed for the Tales from the Shed e-list.

Good luck!
