North London Weekend - Poetry, Potter, Shopping, History and More.

Writing the listing this weekend has reminded me of why I totally love living in North London. There is just so much going on - from poetry readings for the whole family to fantastic vintage shopping and historical re-enactments of Christmases past (Georgian, Victorian and blitz era). It is just so exciting to have so much to pick from and so much of it free or affordable. Check out our listings and have a great North London weekend.

All Weekend

Fenton House, Hampstead - in sunnier weather
Fenton House, Hampstead begins it's Georgian Christmas this weekend and this runs until 18th December. Enjoy seeing parts of the House decorated for a Georgian Christmas, or view the 'hidden' part of the National Trust's work in rooms that have been 'put to bed' for the winter months - conservation in action. Listen to occasional performances of period music and buy Christmas gifts for family and friends.

The Chocolate Factory N16 has an open studio all weekend offering the public a chance to browse and buy locally made gifts. The Chocolate Factory is home to 27 studios of artists, ceramacists, printmakers, designers and photographers. If you are looking for unusual well-made gifts, this is the place for you.

For foodies out there head to the Taste of Christmas London from 2-4 December at the ExCel Centre. A selection of the capital's top restaurants will be serving up seasonal menus full of dishes designed to inspire. Watch some of the country's best chefs take to the stage and shop in Taste's boutique market.

Mercy and Pearl have a festive crafts market at Arts Depot, North Finchley specialising in lovely things for little people and their mummies. We are looking forward to sampling some nice food and buying some lovely things. Hurrah. 10am-2pm.

The Tricycle Theatre, Kilburn is showing Gretal and Hansel at 10.30am and 2pm - a fast-moving, comedy re-telling of the classic fairytale with beautiful puppets, magical tricks, singing and super sand-dancing! This performance has fully integrated sign language. Suitable for 3-7s.

National Army Museum has a free family event called Blitz Christmas: A Family Day of Entertainment and Discovery. There will be 40s entertainment including live music and songs, tree decorating, a drill with the Home Guard and in the evening a chance to dance at the Jingle Bell Jive. Daytime activities suitable for all ages.
