What's on in North London this weekend? Find out here

From here on in, everything is getting festive and so it seems that all events are either 'on ice' or have an opportunity to meet Santa squeezed in somehow. If that's not your thing we've also picked out some great theatre and music events that come without any jingle bells attached!

If however it's festive theatre you're after see our post here, or if it's Christmas shopping see this post about Christmas markets and Christmas fairs.

All Weekend

Jacksons Lane, Highgate is showing The Magician's Daughter a production by the fantastic Little Angel Theatre. Inspired by Shakespeare’s classic The Tempest, The Magician’s Daughter invites you to follow Miranda’s daughter on her adventures across a magical faraway island. Suitable for ages 3+.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland starts this weekend and promises to be as magical as ever. There is an ice rink, bandstand, fairground rides, christmas market, circuses and lots of lovely food and drink.

It's ice skating season and there are now ice rinks at Somerset House, Natural History Museum, Tower of London, Westfield and Alexandra Park.

Saturday

Tricycle Theatre, Kilburn is showing Fiddlesticks at 11.30am and 2pm. The playful spirit of a violin breaks free from his strings and journeys into a world of musical fantasy in search of the beautiful Violinka. During his quest birds fly out from musical scores and puppets made from musical instruments spring to life and the music teacher Metronomous tries in vain to impose order. Suitable for 4+.

Lauderdale House, Highgate has Tales From The Washing Line at 10am - Recycling is fun. There are puppets to be made and stories to tell from a load of old rubbish.  Find out what happens when the careless Inuit meets a huge but friendly Polar Bear; and how Horace the Dustbin and his friend the little girl defeat the Litterbug. Suitable for ages 3-8.

Barbican Family Film Club is showing Horrid Henry at 11am. You can join the family film club for free.

Somerset House has a free family workshop at 2pm on the theme of Behind The Mask - Learn the history of the masquerade at Somerset House and construct a costume for your own masked ball. For ages 6-12.

Phoenix Cinema Kids Club is showing Eight Below at 12pm with activities beforehand at 11am.

Sunday

Lauderdale House has a family friendly classical musical concert. This week it is The Daiman Quartet. Prices are £7 for adults and £1 per child. We went to this last week with a 3 year old and there were lots of young children there so would probably say suitable for 3+.

Arts Depot, North Finchley is showing The Snow Dragon - Billy has everything a young goat could need – and more besides! But Billy is greedy, he wants more. Billy decides to leave a trail of berries for the Snow Dragon who, as legend has it, delivers presents during the night. But things go wrong when he bumps into some wolves in the woods…Suitable for ages 3+

National Gallery Family Sundays has storytelling for the under 5s at 10.30am and 11.30am and workshops for 5-11s at 11am and 2pm.

Bruce Castle Museum, Tottenham has a free family arts and crafts session 2pm.

Shopping

The fantastic Aravore, children's boutique in Crouch End, which sells absolutely gorgeous clohthes has 10% off all weekend on coats and party outfits and if you spend over £35 you get a free goody bag.
