Desperate for a (child-friendly) holiday? Check-out these websites...

When the days are dark and cold and you are desperate for a break where do you go to find a holiday? And how do you know it is going to suit your little ones? If, like this North London Mum, you find booking holidays very stressful then these fab childfriendly holiday websites are for you! We are already packing our bags...
Baby Friendly Boltholes

Baby Friendly Boltholes is a fantastic sight for searching for your next childfriendly breaks. If you are thinking of planning a last minute break this Christmas, or looking for a sunny getaway next year, and want to find somewhere suitable for pre-schoolers, Baby Friendly Boltholes is the destination for you!

Baby Friendly Boltholes was set up by Sian Williams, who set up the site after having her first baby, drawing on her experience of 12 years in the luxury travel industry. Her ambition is to combine "toddlers with taste"- a worthy ambition in the opinion of North London Mums! Booking through the site secures the small price as booking direct, or even less.

BFB covers the UK, Europe and further afield Oman, Mauritius, Thailand and the Carribean. You can make a simple search, or fill in a more detailed form which allow you to narrow down the search by childcare requirement, type of swimming pool, property facilities and services (private chef anyone?).

The site features extensive and really useful information against each property-detailed overview, location information, awards, reviews and owner profiles- perfect if, like me, you find choosing holiday locations very stressful! Guest ratings are also shown on a sliding scale. We particularly love the fast facts section which provides handy symbols and detailed facts against key criteria such as number of beds, pool, child-appropriate toys and wi-fi. Frankly I could have done with this site before I had kids! Now it is a saviour!

If you are looking for inspiration BFB also has top tens including Top 10 Chiconomic, Toddler Tastic and New Parents.

Finally, we really enjoyed the blogs from the site- there's a Baby Friendly Boltholes Lifestyle blog which recommends top finds for style-savvy parents, and Travel Dad Blog- "Dads reporting from the frontline of traveling with toddlers in tow." Lots of handy tips- particularly on handy gear.

Tots to Travel

Tots to Travel, is an online travel company which focusses on properties which both grown ups and kids will love and which are personally checked by the Tots to Travel team to check for child safety.

Tots to Travel has sourced holiday locations in UK, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Canaries. You can search for properties by map, alphabetically, size or date range. When searching, you can create a shortlist which you can forward to other families to look at.  Each property has an "At a Glance" description, a reference by a Tots to Travel team member and then a detailed description, highlighting the baby and child-friendly facilities.  The site also advises on activities in the surrounding area and transport links.

Tots to Travel also has a Tots to Travel Blog packed with hints, tips, news and views on holidaying with kids. We love.

Away with the Kids

Away with the Kids is a travel directory for families which specialises in child-friendly family holidays in the UK, Ireland as well as some overseas locations including France, Portugal and as far afield as Cambodia and Thailand. The expertise of the team lies in the UK- the overseas properties are largely sourced by Travel Matters- a family focussed travel agency in South London.

You can search by map, and through a more detailed search by accomodation type and facilities. YOu can also search by type- hotel, self catering accomodation, somthing different... Each property has a detailed description, with  useful key to highlight key amenities. Offers, reviews and late availability are also listed for each property. The website also lists family days out and childfriendly restaurants across the UK- although its a shame these aren't linked to individual properties. Away with the Kids also features a  Lifestyle Blog featuring some useful travel tips.

Brilliant! Thanks North London Mums. It is so lovely to hear such great feedback and to know what we are doing is genuinely helping parents get well deserved breaks that are more fun and less stress! Juliet, Tori and I at BFB HQ love chatting to parents about what they need and finding something perfect, then waiting for the (usually) glowing feedback ratings so we know how well it went. Please do call us if we can help (0845 489 0140)
Thanks again! Sian
