Friday Finds - Cake, Shopping, Parties and Family Fun

We had a really great week this week, there is just so much going on in the run up to the holidays. Our favourite things this week were: visiting the Pudding Parlour at The Atheaeum Hotel, going to Little Tales run by the JCC London, going to a really good children's party with a fantastic entertainer, and shopping in lovely Oliver Bonas. We tell you more about all of these things in this week's Friday Finds.

North London Mums Eats Cake (Again)
We were lucky enough to visit Pudding Parlour at The Athenaeum Hotel on the invitation of the very useful site Really Kid Friendly, who organised a fantastic night out for London bloggers. It is a rare thing for this North London mum to go into town on a weekday night (in fact on any night) and it was very exciting to get dressed up in my new dress (more of which later) and head off to the delightful sounding Pudding Parlour to meet some other bloggers.

Pudding Parlour is open every night except Sunday and is basically my ideal night out. In lovely, calm surroundings an endless supply of beautiful desserts are served alongside a nice range of wines and dessert wines. You pay £10 per visit for unlimited cakes, or £15 for cakes and a glass of wine or port. We surprised even ourselves with how much cake we were able to eat in one night - fruit tarts, rhubarb crumble, christmas pudding, chocoloate mousse, lemon meringue all slipped down all too easily but even so there were many pudding we didn't even try and are still thinking about - mince pies, champagne jellies and the list goes on.

We loved that it was quiet enough to chat to people, whilst also being a fun night out. We would definitely recommend for a sophisticated girls night out or even a date with your husband or partner, provided he has a sweet tooth too. We will definitely be going again.

North London Mums Goes Shopping

In preparation for the night at Pudding Parlour, we went shopping on Upper Street, something I've not done for some time. After stopping for some great cake at Euphorium Bakery (oh dear, a lot of cake eating this week...), I headed to Oliver Bonas where I was really happy to find some great dresses for great prices as well as all the other fantastic homeware pieces that the shop is known for.  Should you be interested, you can see said lovely dress here.

We are particularly happy to tell you that Oliver Bonas has just opened a new shop in Muswell Hill to sit alongside its Hampstead and Islington shops. We've not checked it out yet but hear it's great. Hurrah.

North London Mums Has Fun With The Children

And last but not least, we had some really good fun with the children this week at two different things. We went to a Chanukah Special of Little Tales run by JCC London. We took a three year old and an almost one year old and both absolutely loved the songs, dancing, parachute games and bubbles. Apparently this will be transferring to a morning session in January, which is a shame as we liked that it was in the afternoon when there is usually less on for us to do. We recommend checking it out though.
We are often asked for help with planning parties and we have researched party entertainers in North London before for you. When we see a really great entertainer we want to share it with you as we know they are hard to find. We saw Heidi from LaLa Land at a party last weekend for a three year old's birthday and she had all the children spellbound, with her great songs and guitar playing that was also tuneful enough for adults to appreciate. Heidi will be re-starting her LaLa Land classes at Arts Depot, North Finchley on Fridays in January so check her website for more details.

Have a great weekend and do tell us if there's anywhere or anything you think we should visit next.

I recommend "NUT!" at the Institut Fran├žais in South Kensington : adapted from "Casse-noisette" and performed by the Exchange Theatre, it's an interactive show during which the Queen of Mice, a candy castle and a toy fight are all thrown together!

(Btw, I made the sugar castle! I had so much fun!)
