Friday Finds-North London Mums' adventures at Kew and drinking beer

As you know North London Mums are dedicated to finding new and unusual places, eateries, websites (and of course cakes!) for North London families to enjoy! This week we find diverting treats at Kew Gardens and checkout local brews at the Bull in Highgate.

Playing at....Kew Gardens

In search of fresh air and foliage at Christmas this North London family headed to Kew Gardens on a frosty late December morning. We were expecting a long walk through the gardens but we also found great childfriendly activities.

Entering through the Brentford Gate, we quickly came upon the Treehouse Towers adventure playground- a great bespoke playground featuring giant swings, zipwires and scramble nets - a welcome change to the standard fare in parks.  There is also a Climbers and Creepers indoor soft play- great for little ones and if it is cold. Face painting is also on offer. Just nearby is an old fashioned merry-go-round- really one of the most beautiful I have seen, and a dinky little track with cars that North London girlies loved.

For caffeine deprived adults there is a great cafe (White Peaks) serving a range of child and adult friendly food in a relaxing environment.

And once you have exhausted all the child -play activities, there are of course the beautiful grounds and unique glasshouse galleries. We really only scratched the surface as there is loads more to do at Kew with trails, a treetop walkway and Arboretum- we will definitely be returning.

The only downside is that it can be quite costly- but if you are likely to visit several times return the annual pass seems very good value.

Eating at... The Bull, Highgate

Inside The Bull, Highgate

In search of a cosy pub lunch we also headed to The Bull in Highgate  during the Christmas break. Joyful- great service and ambience, a delicious, contemporary menu, with a great choice of food for kids. The staff were very happy to accommodate our requests, and it is such a relaxed environment that even the toddler was chilled! The Bull is a micro brewery and each dish is paired with a beer suggestion. It would have been rude not to try some so we did- they were delicious. We would highly recommend for a Sunday lunch with the family (or treat yourselves to a grown-up night out!).

If you have any fab finds you would like us to feature in our Friday Finds do let us know!
