North London Weekend Highlights - Wake up! It's Spring!

A great weekend this weekend with lots for everyone to do and explore. We've rounded up the things we most like the sound of. Have a great weekend.....

Watford Palace Theatre is showing Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales all weekend - a brand new magical collection of Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson’s most popular titles including Tiddler, The Smartest Giant in Town, A Squash and a Squeeze and Monkey Puzzle. For ages 3+. 


Wake Up! It's Spring! is the fantastic sounding event at King Henry's Walk Garden, a community garden on the border of Islington and Hackney. The event is aimed at North London families.  Entrance is free, there will be lots of games for children and adults, craft and plant stalls, puppet show for under 6's at 1.30, craft activities for children and adults to try, delicious homemade Turkish food, tea and homemade cakes.  At 2.00 the comedy singing duo, Can You Dig It? will be breaking their UK tour to perform for us and their allotment-based repertoire, particularly their love song to Alan Titchmarsh, is unmissable.  Fun and frolics from 12.00-4.00.  Everyone's welcome.

St Martin in the Fields has Mini Maestro, a concert series for the over 4s at 4.30pm (odd time for young children but hey sounds great) - the concerts bring the great classics alive for all ages, with stories, movement and by exploring what the music means. There is lots of hands-on fun with clapping and singing along, games, and close encounters with the instruments as our friendly musicians go ‘walk-about’ in the audience. After the concert the children can meet the musicians, see and hear the instruments close-up, and even conduct! Adults £8.50, Children £6.50.

Forge Music Venue, Camden has a music workshop for 1-4s at 10.45am and 5-8s at 12pm -
Run by experienced workshop leaders, these regular music-making sessions are a great way to introduce and encourage your children into music. Activities will include singing, dancing, rhythm work, movement and percussion playing. All children must be accompanied by an adult.  However, parents can enjoy brunch in the courtyard while keeping an eye on the workshop!  To book a table for brunch during the workshop, please ring 02073875959.

Tricycle Theatre Kilburn is showing The Ugly Duckling at 11am and 1pm - Float downstream with the Story Man, in Sea Legs Puppet Theatre’s gentle, new musical adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale of belonging and identity. Suitable for 3+.

Phoenix Cinema Kids Club is showing Hugo at 11am - A young orphan living in the walls of a Parisian train station becomes wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and a mechanical man.

Lauderdale House, Highgate is showing Otiz Canneloni's Magical Mayhem - Fresh from the comedy circuit to the cutting edge of family cabaret with minimal magic and maximum madness for the young and young at heart. Some tricks, some prizes and some joining in… plus Musical Keith’s magical notes. 10am for ages 3-8.

There's a children's book fair at Highgate Literary and Scientific Institute -10-1pm with activities, second hand books, face painting and new books plus author Jeanne Willis makes an appearance at 11am.


Spitalfields City Farm has its first family friendly Eco-chic Outdoor Market this week 10-6.

Geffrye Museum has a family day called Going Global - Inspired by our At Home with the World exhibition, join us for fun activities from all over the globe! Children can decorate Eastern-style tiles, young people can learn and develop image-editing skills and everyone can get dressed up in costumes and listen to stories and live music from around the world. Suitable for all ages.

Little Angel Theatre is showing Me and The Sea - a powerful and visual new story combining table-top puppetry, beautiful live music and energetic physical storytelling.

Arts Depot, North Finchley is showing Two, Four, Six, Eight - Using music, balloons and too much wrapping paper, Two Four Six Eight! shows how fun numbers can be with your friends. For ages 4-7.

There is a Party In The Park at Mill Hill Park - celebrating the completion of the renovation of the playground at Mill Hill Park. Free entry, 2-4pm. Come and play on the bouncy castles and fun fair rides or meet some of the animals from Belmont Children's Farm. Saracens Rugby Club coaches will be joining us, have a kick at goal and get cheered on by The Saracens Sensations cheerleaders. If football is more your sport, why not test your skills on the speed goal, courtesy of Whetstone Wanderers? For dog owners there will be demonstration of dog training by Barnet Kennel Club. There will also be an opportunity to be part of the park's future by planting trees and shrubs in the grounds of the park.
