It's the weekend- again - What's on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June

Gosh- is it June already? Well, the Diamond Jubilee may have passed, but there's still loads on for families this weekend. We are excited....


If you are still fired up by the Jubilee, then head to Kensington Palace to visit the exhibition- Jubilee, A view from the crowd, which explores Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee from the point of view of those who celebrated it, from duchesses to newspaper sellers.

This weekend is Open Garden Squares Weekend: 208 gardens, 2 days, 1 ticket! There are 24 new gardens participating and the gardens and squares are spread across 27 London boroughs. Choose which gardens you wish to visit - from the historic and well-groomed squares to the contemporary community allotments and roof gardens. Fantastic opportunity for exploring some of our city's hidden gems! Local gardens include Long Lane pasture in Barnet, and Waterlow Park Kitchen Garden in Highgate.  Suitable for all ages, children under 12 go free.

The London Green Fair returns for the weekend to Regents Park. This is London's largest, free green festival, and includes a Children's eco-zone, which will feature children's dance classes and theatrical performances alongside workshops and activities (such as felt making, peas and planting, and recycled music), baby changing and chill area, healthy food, organic bars and markets, picnic area and walkabout performers and of course face painting!

The Museum of Childhood is holding Punch and Judy Puppet shows for children 4+, across the weekend.  Come and meet Mr Punch, England's oldest and most famous puppet character who celebrates his 350th birthday in 2012. See his wife Judy, the baby, Joey the Clown and a mischievous crocodile too.


The Arts Depot, North Finchley,  is showing Tiddler and other Terrific Tales, a brand new show from the award-winning Scamp Theatre, adapted from the bestselling books by  Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. This is a magical collection of Julia Donaldson’s most popular titles including Tiddler, The Smartest Giant in Town, A Squash and a Squeeze and Monkey Puzzle brought to the stage spectacularly by the team that brought you Aesop’s Fables, Stick Man and Private Peaceful. Under sea, over land, on the farm and in the jungle, these tales are woven together with live music, songs, puppets and a host of colourful characters who will delight. There are Tiddler craft activities an hour before the show- but they are sold out for Saturday.


Saturday 9 June

Drop in to Tate Britain between 10 am and 3pm and experience Art Fair – an interactive event for families of all ages. Shape and create sound performances, take a binaural tour of the gallery, explore a fictional art fair and contribute to the live press booklet.

The Saturday morning show at Lauderdale House is Fairie Grannie. Enter a magical world where baby dragons meet flower fairy babies.  Set in a nursery, Fairy Grannie will entertain with magic tricks, stories, singing, dancing and even a spot of ventriloquism. A special welcome for Grandparents. Shows at 10 am and 11.30. For children aged 2-6 years.

The wonderful Chickenshed is showing Story Tales  at 11am. The show celebrates the marvel and tradition of storytelling with the Tales from the Shed team plus a special storytelling guest, which this year will be the amazing Skewbald Theatre from Enfield.


The fabulous Seussical! The Musical, performed by Showstoppers,  is showing at 2.30 and 7pm at the Bull Theatre, Barnet. Suitable for children 3+.

Haringey Families Nearly New Sale is taking place at St George’s Hall, Cranley Gardens, N10 3AH (corner of Park Rd N8) and runs from 10.30am until 11.45am.

Sunday 10 June

There is a summer fair at Spires Shopping Centre, Barnet, in aid of Chery Lodge Cancer Care. There will be stalls selling fashion, plants, jewellery, cakes, food, tombola and accessories. Suitable for all ages.

Bruce Castle Museum is holding free Family Activities for Sparkly Crowns, between 2 and 4pm! Get ready for your own royal engagement by making a shiny crown complete with jewels

The Jewish Community Centre for London (JCC) is holding a family disco, Beats, Balloons and Bubullas,  for children aged 6 and under  from 2.30 to 5pm at the Arts Depot, North Finchley. The party will include Hula-hooping, Face painting, Jive competition and Parachute play. 36.50, kids under 1 go free.
