Summer Holidays 22-27 July - What's on in North and Central London


The summer holidays are finally here! If you're looking for things to do next week then look no further. Here is our round up of great things that are on in the holidays in North London and Central London for children including museum events, theatre, camps, courses and more. Here is a list of North London playgroups running throughout the holidays. See below for details of one off events running across North and Central London this week.

Monday 23 July

The Wallace Collection has Bugs and Butterflies - create a window sticker. Booking essential. 7+, £7.

Alyth Synagogue Playgroup, NW11 - Relaxed drop in session for children from birth - 2.5 years old. Everyone welcome (including non-members). Lots of toys, refreshments for you and your little one, great company and a little sing-a-long too. Cost: £3 per child, £1 per sibling. All profits go to charity. Monthly VIP Guest Speakers at no extra charge. 9.30-11.30.

Pop Up Tales are running sessions for babies aged 3+ at Rokesely Children's Centre N8 - 2.45-3.15. Enjoy your favourite children's stories brought to life with puppets, music and bubbles.

NCT Harrow are running their Bumps and Babies drop in all through the summer too at North Harrow Methodist Church, 2pm.

Al's Little Singers, a great music group for little people is running at The Clissold Arms, N2 at 9.30am and10.30am.

Diddi Dance is running as part of Busy Rascals great summer programme - dancing games and exercises to funky pop songs in Willesden Green. Walking until 4 years old. 9.45am. Contact Gina at Diddi Dance on 07426009179.

Hartbeeps is running three sessions in August in Elstree. This is a really fun class for babies from 10 weeks to crawling. Email natasha@hartbeeps.com for more information.

Award winning baby signing company Sing and Sign are offering a FREE taster session at the Early Learning Centre in The Spires Shopping Centre. 

Kick start the summer holidays with some environmentally friendly fun! RECRO’s ‘Summer Eco Day’ for children promises to be exciting day and packed full of activities which include a nature trail, recycled craft, outdoor games and even yoga. Children will learn new skills and develop a renewed love for the great outdoors. It will also give them plenty of ideas to keep busy for the rest of the holiday! Waterlow Park, Highgate - 9.30-3pm, £30 per child. For 5-11s.

Safari Pete's Live Animal Show - Let Safari Pete take you on a journey where you’ll meet all sorts of wild but wonderful animals, get to stroke them and find out how they live in the wild. 2.30-3.30pm, Finsbury Library, 2.30pm, Free.

Barnfield Children's Centre has Jungle Story Explorers- A jungle themed activity with stories, rhymes and creative activities. This activity is delivered by Barnet Libraries and is aimed at children under five and their parents and carers. Edgware. Free.

Stoke Newington Library has Milo and The Magic Shell - interactive storytelling. An interactive performance full of actions, counting, singing, acting and working as a group. Free. Age: 5 - 8 years. 2-3pm.

Tuesday 24 July

Benjamin Franklin Museum has Bones in the Basement - activities to explore the history of the house, 7-14 years. Book in advance, £5 per child.

Little Angel Theatre, Islington has a puppet making day for 5-11s.

The NCT CUFOS Playgroup meets every Tuesday at 3pm-4.30pm. We welcome mums-to-be, babies, toddlers and children up to school age. £1.50 per family. Expect weekly arts and crafts, baby area, outside play, lots of toys, storytelling and singing.CUFOS, The Old Railway Station, Top of The Avenue, N10 2QE

Mini Mozart are running classes in Highgate for babies and toddlers (up to 4s welcome). These are great classes that have professional musicians playing live for the children as well as fun, bubbles and more. Classes can be booked individually and are running weekly all summer. Tuesdays at Pond Square Chapel, N6 6BA. Toddler Classes at 9:30, Babies & Toddlers (great for siblings!) at 10:15 and Babies at 11:10. Kings Square, Islington is having a Summer Family Fun Day to celebrate Love Park's week. Take part in archery, martial arts, sing with Harriet, build a den, see snakes and reptiles and join a penalty shoot-out. Free. 12.30-4.30pm.

Wednesday 25 July

As the Olympic Torch passes through Barnet today its Barnet Positive Activities Day in Friary Park -Come along and watch as Barnet hosts the Olympic Torch on day 68 of the torch relay as it makes its way to the Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony on 27 July. There will be lots of local organisations showcasing their services. Why not come along and take part in anything from Dance to Fashion and Football to Circuits?

Museum of Childhood has HP Playing With Colour Day - a fun, educational and free day out for all the family. HP is giving kids the opportunity to get hands on with colour, looking at the ways in which colours blend together, using water pistols to test your target skills on the range and face painting.

Royal Academy Summer Exhibition family Workshop - an exhibition and tour and a hands-on session for 5+ years. Book in advance.

Keats House, Hampstead has a Teddy Bear's Picnic. Favourite songs, poems and stories. Bring your teddy! Under 5s. Free.3pm.

Pop Up Tales are running sessions at new children's bookshop Pickled Pepper Books, N8 for babies and toddlers - Enjoy your favourite children's stories brought to life with puppets, music and bubbles.9.45-10.15.

Classical Babies have a concert at Interchange Studios, Belsize Park.

Award winning baby signing company Sing and Sign are offering a FREE taster session at Manor Drive Methodist Church, N20 on the corner of Manor Drive and York Way. 

Babymonsters have a family party in Highbury, N5 - Join our dazzling cast of Fairies, Pirates, Princesses, Superheros and Explorers for a Summer Party with a difference! Combining song, dance, storytelling, magic and Baby Signing; our Summer Signing Parties are perfect for children ages 0-4 years. 10.45am.

There's Pond Dipping at New River Walk, Islington - Come and find out what pondlife you can find in the New River. 10am-12pm. All ages. Free.

Stoke Newington Library has a Graphic Novel Workshop for ages 7-12 - Come along and learn how to draw your own manga/comic/cartoon characters with Cartoon Museum tutor Steve Marchant. Hints, tips, and lots of laughs, plus a free cartoon portrait for all who attend. Free, booking preferred.

Thursday 26 July

Little Angel Theatre, Islington has a puppet making day for 5-11s.

Barnet NCT Bumps and Babies group is meeting every week at 11am at the Arts Depot, North Finchley. There is a small soft play for older children and the cafe serves drinks and light snacks.

Award winning baby signing company Sing and Sign are offering a FREE taster session at The Bourne Methodist Church, Southgate.

There's a free Family Art Day at the Estorick Gallery, N1 - Fancy an arty day suitable for all the family? This summer we are having two Free Family Art days at the Estorick, based around our exciting new exhibition Abstraction in Italy 1930-1980. We will be creating optical illusions as well as geometric patterns and art within the galleries.11am-2pm. Drop in.

BabyMonsters has a Groovy Tots 0-4's music session inspired by music from around the world, This class is an exciting mix of singing, dancing, listening and playing. Cellist Heather Truesdall leads the session with the aim of creating an environment of engaged music making for both adults and tots. N5.

There's a Torch Relay Open Day at the Canal Museum in Islington - To celebrate the Olympic
Torch Relay which passes by at about 7.55am, there will be an array of family friendly activities, including arts and crafts, music and dance and a trip on the canal.

The Children's Republic of Shoreditch has a creative writing project - What would happen if children were in charge of Shoreditch? Join the secret agents and story ministers to find out. For ages 8-12. Free.

Hartbeeps, great music sessions for little ones are running over the summer at 10am for walking to 4 years and 11am for sitting to walking at CUFOS in Muswell Hill. 

Friday 27 July

Movers and Shakers is running at Baskervilles Tea Shop in Palmers Green - for 0-3s. Everyone taking part has the chance to sing, play a musical instrument, be amazed by the parachute and get lost in a world of bubbles! Every Friday in July at 10.30 and 11am and in August at 10.30 only.

The original and much loved baby signing company Sing and Sign is offering another FREE Taster at Hampden Way Childrens Centre for you and your little one to come and see what all the fuss is about ahead of our new term starting in September.
