Weekend Away? We have an adventure in the Cotswolds!

Sometimes it's good to have a break - even a rainy one! so this weekend North London family ventured to the Cotswolds for a last minute weekend treat.

Spa Pool- lots of fun for kids

We found a last minute deal at the Cheltenham Chase Hotel in Gloucestershire, about 15 minutes from Cheltenham. It was perfect for a weekend escape. We managed to get a suite at a reasonable rate with loads of space for north london little ladies to sleep. When we arrived the bed and cot were already made up. The hotel has a spa and fitness club with a  lovely pool and very clean facilities- the kids loved it. The price list for the spa was enticingly reasonable - sadly booked up but tempting enough to book in advance if we return! We didn't dine in the hotel but we did eat breakfast- a fab buffet with a huge selection from fresh fruits ham and cheese, to cooked breakfast to pastries.

No not quite our hotel- a fab day at Blenheim Palace!

On our journey up to the hotel we stopped at Blenheim Palace- what a fantastic place to visit. It was raining so we sheltered in the beautiful palace rooms and had lunch in the Water Terrace Cafe. A great selection of freshly cooked food with kids menu (real fish fingers). At the other end of the restaurant is a champagne bar- tempting!

When the rains cleared we ventured out. The palace grounds are really stunning, good for the girls to run and let off a little steam, with a huge parkland which on a fair day is perfect for a picnic. There is also a pleasure garden- accessed by car or by the miniature train, with lots of fun for kids including a maze and adventure play area. You can upgrade you day tickets to a year pass for free which we did- only an hour out of London we would definitely return to Blenheim palace on a sunny day for a picnic.

To finish off our weekend exploits, on the way back home, we spent a couple of hours in Cirencester. There's a beautiful cathedral, and a huge park- stretching way off into the horizon. Also some great little boutiques- we loved French Grey- full of beautiful furniture, jewellery and room scents.

So, lots of fun for the kids, a fab night sleep and shopping for me- can't be bad!

We'd love to hear your weekend retreats! Do let us know!
