Summer Holidays 13- 17th August- Loads on for the kids!

 If you are looking for things to do next week then look no further. Here is our round up of great things that are on in the holidays in North London and Central London for children including museum events, theatre, camps, courses and more. Here is a list of North London playgroups running throughout the holidays. See below for details of one off events running across North and Central London this week.



This week at the RAF Museum is Tales for Future Olympians. A week of fantastical tales and interactive workshops about the original Olympians devised by the Museum in conjunction with Snails Tales, specially created for our younger visitors aged 3 to 9 who have been inspired by London 2012 to learn more about Sport and the legends that inspired the modern day games. Each session enables children to learn more about the heroes and heroines of Ancient Greece whilst exploring how never giving up and believing in yourself can help you reach your goals. 3 sessions will take place daily at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm for up to 45 children in each session and will last approximately half an hour each.  Admission is free, but on a strictly first come, first served basis.
RAF Tales for Future Olympians
At the Victoria & Albert Museum the Imagination Station is open daily from 10.30 to 5pm. Activities are for all ages, with specific ideas for under 5s. Activities are devised by artists, and facilitated buy a family friendly team, with lots of inspiration from the museum.

Join storytellers and creative writers at the British Museum on 14, 15 and 16 August in a series of imaginative workshops and events inspired by the Writing Britain exhibition. Discover the mythical origins of the landscapes, lakes and rivers of the British Isles as storyteller Kevin Graal uses tales and legends to take you on an unforgettable journey. Workshops take place at 11 am and 3pm and are free, with no booking required. Suitable for children 6+.

Lauderdale House is holding daily drawing and painting sessions 10.30 - 12.30 Tuesday to Friday.
Have fun learning how to make wonderful pictures with the help of our professional artist.  Be inspired by the Park! Standard price: £65.00


Monday 13 August

The Creation Station is holding a special summer event at Leon Brent Cross at 10am. The creative theme will be 'Your perfect holiday picture' - it will include painting and decorating your perfect picture AND a wonderful wooden picture holder - including loads of sparkly collage materials to make it extra special! Tickets are only £10 for the first child and £8 for siblings AND TO TOP IT ALL - Leon is offering 40% off any food & drink orders on the day of the event with every ticket bought !!!Check times on the website.

Bring your little ones along to Hartbeeps music and development session at Hornsey Library. For little ones from 6 months - 4 years at 11.15. Contact alison@hartbeeps.com for details.

Kentish Town Library is holding a Story Lab fun activity session for 4-11 year olds  from 11-12.30.

Kentish Town City Farm holds a  Monday Gardening Club 10am to noon for children and young people. This will take place most Mondays so please call to check 020 7916 5421. Donations welcome.

Wood Green Library, 187-197A High Road, Wood Green, N22 6XD has a stay and play songs and toys session 10.30- 11.30. Free. For under 5's.

Alyth Synagogue Playgroup, NW11 - Relaxed drop in session for children from birth - 2.5 years old. Everyone welcome (including non-members). Lots of toys, refreshments for you and your little one, great company and a little sing-a-long too. Cost: £3 per child, £1 per sibling. All profits go to charity. Monthly VIP Guest Speakers at no extra charge. 9.30-11.30.

Pop Up Tales are running sessions for babies aged 3+ at Rokesely Children's Centre N8 - 2.45-3.15. Enjoy your favourite children's stories brought to life with puppets, music and bubbles.


Tuesday 14 August

The Wallace Collection has a family trail around the galleries. 

The Secret Summer Garden is taking place at Parliament Hill 12-4pm. This is a free drop-in session.

Wild Play Day takes place at Golders Hill Park, 12- 4pm. This is a free drop-in session.

Highgate Library, Chester Road N19 5DH is holding a free Olympic athlete craft event for 4 to 11 year olds from 2pm. Design and make an Olympic Torch and Flag!

Camden Library, Crowndale Centre 218-220 Eversholt Street , NW1 1BD is holding a free craft and storytelling session 2-3pm.

Visit Kentish Town City Farm for a drop in art session 1-3pm.

Mini Mozart are running classes in Highgate for babies and toddlers (up to 4s welcome). These are great classes that have professional musicians playing live for the children as well as fun, bubbles and more. Classes can be booked individually and are running weekly all summer. Tuesdays at Pond Square Chapel, N6 6BA. Toddler Classes at 9:30, Babies & Toddlers (great for siblings!) at 10:15 and Babies at 11:10. Wednesday 15 August

The Museum of London is holding a mini Olympics- Have fun playing games together and then make your own winning medal to take home. A creative session for under 5s and their carers – older siblings are welcome. For ages1+. 12-1pm and 1.30-2.30pm.

There's a Teddy Bear's picnic at Keat's House for favourite songs, poems and stories. Bring a teddy! Under 5 years. Free. 3- 3.45pm.

Head to Highgate Woods for a bird of prey display 11-3pm.

Kentish Town library has rhyme time for under 4's, 10.30-11am.

For children aged 8-11 head to the Cartoon Museum for a Comic Jam. You create, and the Cartoon Museum will print, your very own comic. Pick up tips on drawing even better comic characters and stories then create you’re a comic page - it can be Manga, Superhero, Beano page or completely your own creation. At the end of the holiday the museum will be putting all the pages into one A5 comic which will be on sale in the shop. 2-4pm. £10.

Kentish Town City Farm has an Apple Steiner Drop-in 10am to Noon For under 5's. Lots of fun with singing, baking and arts & crafts.Cost £4 per child per session.

Bruce Castle Museum has a drop in arts and crafts session 2-4pm themed "wiggly tentacles". See the museum's fossils and make a model. 

Thursday 16 August

Wild Play Day drop in session 12-4pm Parliament Hill bandstand.

If you are looking to entertain pre-schoolers, head to Bongo Babies class that runs every Thursday at 2.10pm and 3.10pm at the Maynard Arms, 70 Park Road, N8 8SX. It is an interactive drumming group for babies and toddlers up to the age of 4.  Stories, songs and drumming to develop rhythm, co-ordination and imagination. Head to Swiss Cottage Library 88 Avenue Road NW3 3HA at 2.30pm for children and family craft activities at Swiss Cottage Library for the Story Lab Summer Reading Challenge 2012.

Alexandra Park Library has a free drop-in arts and crafts session 3-4.30pm.

Tiny Tempo classes are running throughout the summer - Wednesdays 10am and 11amat Clissold House, Clissold Park, Stoke Newington.

Friday 17 August

Kensington Palace is holding a book making workshop 11am-4pm.

Head to the V&A Museum of Childhood to create a puppet with puppet makers from the Little Angel theatre. Booking required. Accompanied 5 – 11 years. Cost £5.

Kentish Town Library 262-266 Kentish Town Road NW5 2AA has storytellling and book reviews at 2.30, part of the Story Lab summer reading challenge.

Green Peas Eco-Friendly Art have art picnics - join them for a fabulous creative play outdoors! Bring your picnic and enjoy splashing paint, crafting and getting messy in stunning  North Bank House, Muswell Hill - North Bank Gardens, Muswell Hill Methodist Church, 28 Pages Lane, N10 1PP

Movers and Shakers is running at Baskervilles Tea Shop in Palmers Green - for 0-3s. Everyone taking part has the chance to sing, play a musical instrument, be amazed by the parachute and get lost in a world of bubbles! Every Friday in July at 10.30 and 11am and in August at 10.30 only.

Al's Little Singers, a great music group for little people is running at The Clissold Arms, N2 at10.30am.

Busy Rascals also have a Sing and Sign in Willesden Green throughout the summer for 6 - 16 months. For more details click here.
