Summer Holidays - What's on 6th-10th August


The summer holidays are motoring along and so here's some inspiration for things to do to keep you and the family entertained. If you're looking for things to do next week then look no further. Here is our round up of great things that are on in the holidays in North London and Central London for children including museum events, theatre, camps, courses and more. Here is a list of North London playgroups running throughout the holidays. See below for details of one off events running across North and Central London this week. It is also Land Army Week all week at the RAF Museum

Monday 6 August

Alyth Synagogue Playgroup, NW11 - Relaxed drop in session for children from birth - 2.5 years old. Everyone welcome (including non-members). Lots of toys, refreshments for you and your little one, great company and a little sing-a-long too. Cost: £3 per child, £1 per sibling. All profits go to charity. Monthly VIP Guest Speakers at no extra charge. 9.30-11.30.

Pop Up Tales are running sessions for babies aged 3+ at Rokesely Children's Centre N8 - 2.45-3.15. Enjoy your favourite children's stories brought to life with puppets, music and bubbles.

NCT Harrow are running their Bumps and Babies drop in all through the summer too at North Harrow Methodist Church, 2pm.

Al's Little Singers, a great music group for little people is running at The Clissold Arms, N2 at 9.30am and10.30am.

Diddi Dance is running as part of Busy Rascals great summer programme - dancing games and exercises to funky pop songs in Willesden Green. Walking until 4 years old. 9.45am. Contact Gina at Diddi Dance on 07426009179.

Hartbeeps is running three sessions in August in Elstree. This is a really fun class for babies from 10 weeks to crawling. Email natasha@hartbeeps.com for more information.

Eeny Meeny Music has sessions at 9.15, 10.15 and 11.15 in Hampstead Garden Suburb. 

Tuesday 7 August

Green Peas Eco-Friendly Art have art picnics (as seen at the top of this feature) - join them for a fabulous creative play outdoors! Bring your picnic and enjoy splashing paint, crafting and getting messy in stunning Waterlow Park!Waterlow Park Centre, the lawn opposite to the Centre,Waterlow Park N19 5JF

Sir John Soane's Museum has a workshop for 7+ called Luminous - Play with light like Sir John Soane, to create different effects. Make your own light box to take home

The NCT CUFOS Playgroup meets every Tuesday at 3pm-4.30pm. We welcome mums-to-be, babies, toddlers and children up to school age. £1.50 per family. Mini Mozart are running classes in Highgate for babies and toddlers (up to 4s welcome). These are great classes that have professional musicians playing live for the children as well as fun, bubbles and more. Classes can be booked individually and are running weekly all summer. Tuesdays at Pond Square Chapel, N6 6BA. Toddler Classes at 9:30, Babies & Toddlers (great for siblings!) at 10:15 and Babies at 11:10. London Canal Museum has boat trip fun. Boat trips and activities for 6-12 years, £4.

On Hampstead Heath, there is Wild and Wacky Olympics at Golders Hill Park and The Secret Summer Garden at Parliament Hill, drop in. Free

The Big Tree Climbing Co is coming to HIghgate Wood Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bongo Babies is running every Thursday in Crouch End at The Maynard Arms. 2.10 and 3.10 for babies and toddlers up to 4.

Wednesday 8 August

Keats House, Hampstead has a Teddy Bear's Picnic. Favourite songs, poems and stories. Bring your teddy! Under 5s. Free.3pm.

Pop Up Tales are running sessions at new children's bookshop Pickled Pepper Books, N8 for babies and toddlers - Enjoy your favourite children's stories brought to life with puppets, music and bubbles.9.45-10.15.

Babymonsters have a family party in Highbury, N5 - Join our dazzling cast of Fairies, Pirates, Princesses, Superheros and Explorers for a Summer Party with a difference! Combining song, dance, storytelling, magic and Baby Signing; our Summer Signing Parties are perfect for children ages 0-4 years. 10.45am.

Tiny Tempo classes are running throughout the summer - Wednesdays 10am and 11amat Clissold House, Clissold Park, Stoke Newington

Thursday 9 August

Barnet NCT Bumps and Babies group is meeting every week at 11am at the Arts Depot, North Finchley. There is a small soft play for older children and the cafe serves drinks and light snacks.

BabyMonsters has a Groovy Tots 0-4's music session inspired by music from around the world, This class is an exciting mix of singing, dancing, listening and playing. Cellist Heather Truesdall leads the session with the aim of creating an environment of engaged music making for both adults and tots. N5.

Tiny Tempo classes are running throughout the summer - Thursdays 11am at Clissold House, Clissold Park, Stoke Newington

Hartbeeps, great music sessions for little ones are running over the summer at 10am for walking to 4 years and 11am for sitting to walking at CUFOS in Muswell Hill.

Jewish Museum, Camden has messy play11am-12pm for under 5s.

Hampstead Heath has Wild and Wacky Olympics at Parliament Hill and Zoo Day at Golders Hill Park.

Sutton House, Hackney has an Outdoor and Indoor Treasure Chest - art activities, treasure hunt and musical instruments. £3/family £6.90.

Bruce Castle Museum has a free arts and crafts activity for children called Squashy Bugs - Make your own 3-dimensional squashy beetle or ladybird. 2-4pm.

Friday 10 August

Movers and Shakers is running at Baskervilles Tea Shop in Palmers Green - for 0-3s. Everyone taking part has the chance to sing, play a musical instrument, be amazed by the parachute and get lost in a world of bubbles! Every Friday in July at 10.30 and 11am and in August at 10.30 only.

Al's Little Singers, a great music group for little people is running at The Clissold Arms, N2 at10.30am.

Busy Rascals also have a Sing and Sign in Willesden Green throughout the summer for 6 - 16 months. For more details click here.

Islington Museum has a puppet making workshop - Parents and children are invited to join the Jactito Puppet Theatre for a fun packed ‘Rat-a-Tat-Tat’ event. Make a dragon, dog, tiger, pig or indeed, a rat. Have fun and learn how to bring your puppets to life. 2.30pm, free.

Bruce Castle Museum has a free arts and crafts activity for children called Spiders Web -Discover how a spider makes a web and make your own fly-trap. 2-4pm.
