North London Mums' Weekend Round-Up- 17th and 18th November


Ooh yes- its getting Christmassy! From the enticing sounding Frost Fair to the Baby Rave Winter party, we can't help feeling a bit festive....


All weekend

The weekend kicks off early at Brent Cross, which is celebrating the Christmas Light switch-on on  Thursday November 15th. European-acclaimed singing group Voxcetera will be back to perform festive family-favourites as the Centre lights up for the season, also joined by loveable storybook monster The Gruffalo to treat shoppers to a musical number  and story from his show.


The Framed Film festival which starts this weekend (until 25 November) at the Barbican has a wide range of films and activities for children of all ages. Checkout the listings here. Film director Oliver Dieckmann will be introducing a special preview of the festive family feature, When Santa Fell to Earth  on Sunday November 18 at 11.15am. Tickets are available from www.barbican.org.uk priced £5/£3 

The Winter Festival at the Southbank starts this weekend. It features a Christmas market and a host of live music, events and shows. Find out more here.

Saturday 17 November

The British Museum has a Mega Mummy Animation Workshop at 11am and 2pm. Use stop-motion software and digital video cameras to create your own giant and gruesome animation of the mummification process to upload to the web. Suitable for children 5+ . Check for event availability.

Victoria Library has a Date with dad for the Under 5's from 10.30- 11.30am. Stories, songs and arts and crafts.

There's a Christmas Market, 10am to 4pm, Church House, Wood Street Barnet. Stalls include Handmade Jewellery, Gifts and Christmas Cards and all proceeds go to Cherry Tree Cancer Care.  Entrance fee 50p.

Rapunzel and The Tower of Doom is showing at the Tricycle Theatre at 11.30 and 2pm for children 4+. Theatre of Widdershins has taken this tale right back to its dark roots, teased out the tangles and styled it into a beautiful hair-piece! An enchanting show that promises plenty of body, volume and loads of highlights.

Lauderdale House has a Saturday morning magic show for children 3-8 years at 10am. 

Sunday 18 November

Ahoy there Design Museum Workshop for children 5-11. Design a model boat inspired by the Designed to Win exhibition and the array of yachts, tall ships and speed boats that pass the museum on the Thames. One question remains, will your boat float? £4.50 per child.


The enticing-sounding  Frost Fair is taking place at Avenue House from 10am to 3pm. Crafts and gifts for the festive season: textiles, toys, jewellery, homeware, stationery, gifts and the WI tearoom and bake sale.

The Arts Depot, North Finchley, is showing The Pied Piper at 12pm and 3pm. Norwich Puppet Theatre’s humorous and irresistible one person show combines a skilful mix of puppetry, foot-tapping live music and storytelling and entrance young and old. For children aged 3-7.

It's disco- groovy this weekend. The Baby Rave Winter Party is taking place from 3.45 to .15 at the Pirate Castle, Oval Road, Camden. Book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment!

This Sunday is also Mitzvah Day with the JCC in London. Lots of different events from singing to transforming the World Peace Garden. Go-on- get stuck in!
