North London Mums' Weekend Round-Up - 8th and 9th December 2012

There are loads of unusual and fun festive family events this weekend from barn dancing to panto. And if you are still in the midst of festive shopping then there are a number of Christmas markets to head for as well!

Little Hands Design Craft Market

All weekend

The Gruffalo begins its run at the Arts Depot this weekend until 6 January.  Everyone's favourite monster is back on stage in a smash hit musical adaptation of the award-winning picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. Tall Stories, the company behind the much loved The Gruffalo's Child, brings us more monster fun this Christmas with The Gruffalo! We saw it last year and were entranced by the  funny, energetic interpretation of the classic book. For Children 3+.

The Strings Club in Cavendish School, Camden, NW1 7H is holding a weekend course for children from beginners up.  

The Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming has now started at The Roundhouse and is a good fun festive show with a difference for ages 5+.  

And most excitingly, it is the Chocolate Festival this weekend on the Southbank with opportunities to make, buy and taste chocolate with the finest producers in the world. Mmm...

Saturday 8 December

Girlies raising hope for Cherry Lodge are holding a Magic Christmas event on  Saturday 1-5pm at Barnet Hall Library. £2.00 entry free for kids. Treats include Christmas fun Pinky Bus, card decorating, Face painting, biscuit decorating, Kids Tombola. Adults relax and unwind beauty healing therapies, massage, nails, jewellery clothes and beauty stalls plus great refreshments.

Thomas Lipton House, Southgate is holding a family Christmas event on Saturday 8th December between 2 - 5 to meet Santa. There is face painting for the little ones, mulled wine for the adults and shopping and pampering treatments. Raising money for Friends of The Elderly.

The Saturday morning show at Lauderdale House is Mr Fezziwig's Ball. Mr. Fezziwig has invited all his best friends to the Grand Ball - the Dashing White Sergeant Paddy, Brave Captain Cuttle, Polly the Ghost, Rachet the Horse and the Little Orphan Girl. As his guests wait to enjoy the highlight of the year there’s only one problem - where is Mr. Fezziwig. Performances at 10 and 11.30am. For children 3-8yrs.

If you are still planning your shopping (aren't we all?) then head to the West Hampstead Christmas Market taking place on Saturday in West End Green, West End Lane and at Emmanuel Church from 10am-4pm. As well as stalls on the Green there will be a full programme of indoor events in Emmanuel Church, with a focus on events for kids, but with enough to keep adults occupied too. Activities include making wreaths as well as zumba, karate and yoga!

Haringey Familes have invited Barking Dog Theatre Productions to perform a Christmas Pantomime again this year, with an alternative take on a traditional panto- this time Goldilocks the Grumpy bears based on the classic story with songs, action and lots of audience participation. Performances at 2pm and 3.15pm at Tetherdown Hall, Muswell Hill, N10 1ND. For children 3-7 years. Tickets are £5 per person and under 18 months are free.

101 Playgroup Crouch End Christmas Fayre.12pm to 5pm. Santa will be there and there will be games, face painting, delicious food and crafts. 101 Tottenham lane, Crouch End N8 9BG (Entrance to playgroup is off Inderwick Road)

This weekend is also the first East Finchley Christmas Festival -  10am-7pm all along the high road with loads of stalls, storytelling, drama parade, Santa, giant Christmas tree and much more.

And finally Muswell Hill Christmas Market is also happening today at the Village 12-5pm with lots of great things to eat, buy and do. 

Sunday 9 December

Little Hands design Annual Design and Craft Makers market, 11-5pm on Sunday 9 December 2012, at 67 Belsize Lane. Meet some great local Artists, Designers & Crafts People- who will have some unique items for sale. There will be free crafts workshops to make small presents and decoration throughout the day, all while you enjoy some delicious cakes and treats along with a glass of mulled wine! We love the sound of Christmas Giggles taking place 11am till 4pm, St Johns Church Hall, Bourne Hill, Palmers Green, N13 4D. Giggles is full of things for the kids to do and enjoy, and this time, gifts for you to stock up on as Christmas presents for you and the family and lots of stocking fillers all from your local businesses. There will also be a bouncy castle, and lots of things for kids to do and enjoy. Put the Kettle On will be giving us a lovely tea room with lost of lovely things to eat and drink.

The JCC is holding a family event- Tiny Tales presented by Stories Come to Life- for children aged 3-5 yrs to celebrate Hannukah. Activities include creating a clay hannukiah, decorating doughnuts, painting cast menorahs/dreidels, plus games, dancing, stories and more!4-5pm. £8.50 per child.

Bruce Castle Museum, Tottenham, is holding a card-making workshop 2 to 4pm for children 5-13 years. 

Cecil Sharp House, NW1, is holding a Family Barn Dance from 3pm-5pm. These high energy afternoon events give budding dancers a chance to take their first dance steps and spins. With live music and expert callers.

Celebrate Chanukah in Islington with a giant menorah lighting in Islington Green at 5pm. Promises Donuts, latkes and hot cocoa!
