Weekend Round Up - 22 and 23 June



Lots of fantastic things on this weekend, all we need is some sunshine. The West End comes to Trafalgar Square for lots of free performances from the top shows, there's festivals and street parties across town and the usual array of theatre and film. Have a great weekend.

All Weekend

West End Live  (pictured above) is on in Trafalgar Square bringing all of the biggest West End shows like Wicked, Billy Elliott, Les Mis, Chorus Line and more to the masses. Saturday 11-6, Sunday 12-6.

Charing Cross Festival - iconic booksellers Foyles and Blackwell’s, plus a host of retailers, venues and cafés up and down the street, present two days of talks, gigs, activities and more – from a musical journey with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to ukulele workshops, Horrible Histories with Terry Deary and live jazz in the Ray’s Cafe. And of course you’ll find face painters, storytellers, caricaturists and more up and down the street all weekend. Full programme here.

Still on Southbank visit Beanotown at Southbank Centre and celebrate 75 years of the country's favourite comic. Beanotown is the home of Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, The Bash Street Kids, Minnie the Minx, Roger the Dodger, plus all the other comic strip superstars from The Beano. It’s a place where kids of all ages can enjoy laughs, jokes and pranks together and this summer it’s being brought to colourful life for the first time ever!  Beanotown is free and is located in the Festival Village, underneath the Queen Elizabeth Hall. It runs from 31 May- 8 September, and is open from 11am – 7pm.

East London Comics and Arts Festival- ELCAF 2013, the second East London Comics and Arts Festival will take place this year on the 22nd of June in the fantastic York Hall in London’s Bethnal Green. Rammed with exciting programming for people of all ages, the events space will offer immersive encounters with the fascinating worlds of illustration and comics, while the fair will provide you with a unique opportunity to pick up affordable art and prints, the full gamut of comics and graphic novels and even the occasional hand made toy and t-shirt. 

Wellcome Collection Midsummer Picnic - This year we’ll be turning Cumberland Market, Camden into a massive garden to celebrate our theme of growing. There’ll be a garden-party feel with family activities, entertainment, food and drink – including afternoon tea of course! There will be an entertainer, go-karting and giant games, face painting, soft play, salad buffet and afternoon tea and much more.


Families Create Session at Zabludowicz Collection - Every Saturday, drop into a Families Create activity in the café. Get creative using the current exhibitions as inspiration. Led by artist Effie Coe, we explore different creative ideas, materials and processes each week.

Shelter from the rain at the Phoenix Cinema Kid's Club which this weekend has a Wallace and Gromit Double Bill. Hurray!



The fantastic Chickenshed's Tales From The Shed is on tour at Dugdale Centre in Enfield -  a highly entertaining, interactive theatre show that is perfect for young children. It is informal, lively and amazingly engaging as the performers and audience share the same space. We guarantee that every show will be fun, really silly and that there will be plenty of colourful puppets and live songs. Children are always encouraged to make a lot of noise and to make the story happen. Every week we present different stories featuring the same much loved characters – from Can-Can the beautiful bird to laid back Lion Down and The Thing That Goes Blurgh! 345 Preschool is having a Midsummer Garden Party at 345 Springfield, The Grove in Alexandra Park - there will be face painting, meet the fire brigade, bouncy castle, barbecue, bake sale and much more. 11-2.

As part of the Alma Street Fair in NW5, the Zabludowicz Collection will be hosting an afternoon of fun creative activities for children of all ages. Artists Joseph Noonan-Ganley and Frank Wasser with Sybella Perry and Kerry Campbell will be leading drop-in workshops in the Zabludowicz Collection gallery and at Alma Street Fair. Using the local neighbourhood and the Zabludowicz Collection gallery as inspiration the drop-in sessions will include make-your-own-bunting, story-telling and a parade. An afternoon of creativity that is guaranteed to inspire young imaginations.
Visitors are welcome to drop-in to the gallery and our spot at Alma Street Fair any time between 12 – 6pm. All materials provided free. 

Arts Depot, North Finchley is showing Robin Hood and His Very Merry Men - Join the legendary outlaw Robin Hood and his band of very merry men as they rob from the rich to save the poor in this laugh-a-minute adventure. For ages 4+ at 12pm and 3pm.

Fancy a dance? Head to Monski Mouse's Baby Disco Dance Hall on the South Bank -
DJ Monski Mouse, brings her high-energy smash-hit parents' and children's dance event for under fives to the Spielgeltent.Monski and her team will have heads and shoulders, knees and toes bopping along to retro dance tracks, pop favorites and funky nursery rhymes. 3pm, £8.
