Weekend Round Up - 8th and 9th June


The sun is out and so there are many things to do in London with festivals, markets, dancing, theatre and more.  Just don't forget your sunscreen!

All Weekend

Crouch End Festival - The second Crouch End Festival kicks off this weekend and lasts all week with a really varied programme for all ages. This Saturday check out the children's literary day at Pickled Pepper Books There is also an art picnic for kids on Sunday at 11am meeting at the Pavilion in Priory Park.

Open Garden Squares Weekend in London this weekend, tickets are £10 for adults and free for children and entitle you to visit community gardens and private squares throughout London. Gardens range from historical private squares to contemporary roof gardens, prisons, barges. There are barbeques, games and facepainting at various destinations so see the full programme here. 

If the weather stays warm, you might want to head down to the South Bank for the Appearing Rooms Fountain (shown above) which is back this year after a break. The interactive fountain is a massive hit with children, just remember to take towels and a change of clothes!

Still on Southbank visit Beanotown at Southbank Centre and celebrate 75 years of the country's favourite comic. Beanotown is the home of Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, The Bash Street Kids, Minnie the Minx, Roger the Dodger, plus all the other comic strip superstars from The Beano. It’s a place where kids of all ages can enjoy laughs, jokes and pranks together and this summer it’s being brought to colourful life for the first time ever!  Beanotown is free and is located in the Festival Village, underneath the Queen Elizabeth Hall. It runs from 31 May- 8 September, and is open from 11am – 7pm.



Saturday

The Artisan Market is in Avenue House Stables today selling  the best quality seasonal produce and a piece of London’s vibrant street food scene 10-3.

Big Day Out, Whittington Park is part of the Holloway Arts Festival and is free and open to all ages. There will be workshops, facepainting, ice cream, food, bug hunting and much more.

Arts Depot, North Finchley has Gigz for Kidz - a concert for children to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital - The performers have been hand picked; singers, singer/songwriters, dancers and musicians between the ages of 5 - 25 years old. Tickets £8 for adults, £6 for children, £4.

Lauderdale House, Highgate has a kids show this morning at 10am and 11.30am called Bowjangles on the Box - Tune in to the Bowjangles Broadcasting Corporation live at Lauderdale House and see the quartet using their instruments in ways you’d never have imagined! They will be presenting a jam-packed ‘TV schedule’ of children’s shows, news and weather, a soap opera and a nature documentary.

Sunday

Arts Depot has a show for 0-3s called Circles in the Sand - Join us in a world of play with buckets and sand castles, spinning and tumbling, delighting in the feel of the sand as it trickles between toes and fingers. An intimate show with music from around the world and a chance to play in sand afterwards. At 10am, 12pm and 3pm.

Fancy a dance? Head to Monski Mouse's Baby Disco Dance Hall on the South Bank -
DJ Monski Mouse, brings her high-energy smash-hit parents' and children's dance event for under fives to the Spielgeltent.Monski and her team will have heads and shoulders, knees and toes bopping along to retro dance tracks, pop favorites and funky nursery rhymes. 3pm, £8.
