Weekend Round Up - 22nd and 23rd February


The Imagine Children's Festival on Southbank finishes this weekend and highlights are: Children's laureate Anthony Browne, Cressida Cowell, Quentin Blake leading a celebration of 50 years of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The National Youth Orchestra taking you on a Bear Hunt and much more. Plus there are craft workshops, dancing, secret reading spaces and storytelling to enjoy - costs vary but many activities are free.

Dogs Don't Do Ballet has its last few shows at the Arts Depot this weekend. 

Sleeping Beauty In the Wood (pictured above) is on all weekend at Little Angel Theatre - an adaptation of the original Brothers Grimm tale of Briar Rose. Suitable for ages 3+.

My Creche, Crouch End has a free open day 10-12 with balloons and toys.

Pickled Pepper Books in Crouch End has author Sam Hay talking about his book Undead Pets - Joe is just an ordinary boy until he makes a wish on a spooky Egyptian amulet....Funny dark and full of adventure. Ages 5+, 11am, FREE. 

Muppets Take Manhattan is the show at the Phoenix Cinema Kids Club East Finchley this weekend, film starts at 12pm. 

The kids show at Lauderdale House Highgate this week is The Pirate From Space at 10am and 11.30am - Books no longer exist in outer space, so Zohar the Space Pirate has come to Planet Earth to find a story. Join in his adventure and help him create a story of Shipwrecks, Desert Islands, Puppets and Hidden Treasure to take home.

Camden Arts Centre has a family drop in session at 2pm - very Sunday while the exhibitions are on, families with children can drop in to the Drawing Studio for practical and creative activities based around the exhibitions. This season families can produce their own experimental drawings and rubbings and work together to build magnetic sculptures that can be projected onto their landscapes using our wireless spy camera. Participants are welcome to take their drawings home at the end of the workshop. Activities are suitable for all ages. No booking is required. FREE.

Just across the road, the excellent play Handa's Surprise is on at JW3, Swiss Cottage at 10.30am - Travel to Kenya and follow in Handa’s footsteps as she journeys to see her best friend Akeyo, in the next village. A blend of physical performance, puppetry, live music and song combine to create an intimate, magical production with audience participation.Limited capacity – early booking advised! Also at JW3 is the film Kirikou and the Sorceress at 10.30am and Family Music Time for under 5s also at 10.30am.
