Weekend Round Up - 3-5 May


The weather report is promising sunshine so we are hoping for a great bank holiday weekend, but just in case we are prepared with lots of all weather suggestions! Have a great weekend.

There's tree climbing all weekend at Alexandra Palace, more details here. Run by the Great Big Climbing Company, it costs £15.50 per child.

Little Angel Theatre is showing Skitterbang Island - Lost on a bleak and craggy island, a small girl meets a strange creature - the Skitterbang! £12 adults, £10 children.

It's Canalway Cavalcade in Maida Vale all weekend - a unique waterways and community festival arranged by IWA at Little Venice in London since 1983. There’ll be fun for all the family with a boaters’ gathering, a pageant of boats, trade shows and stalls, live music, kids’ activities, competitions, Morris Dancers, a real ale bar, a wide variety of snacks and food.

While you are in the area, visit the Puppet Barge Theatre which is moored in Little Venice and which is showing A Child's Garden of Verse - for all ages 3+ showing at 11am and 3pm. 

Fancy a day trip out of London? Head to Wrest Park near Luton which has Georgian Games all weekend - From battledores to shuttlecocks, play like a Georgian as you step back in time this May bank holiday weekend. Discover games that time forgot and master the skills needed to outmanoeuvre your opponents and astound your family.

Saturday

Museum of London Docklands has a whole day of celebrations to celebrate May Day on the Docks - celebrate may day with a whole day of free family events. You can create a flower bouquet, make a jack in the box, hear spring folktales and take part in a procession.

Lime Wharf hosts a new First Saturdays event for the whole family. There will be food, live music, craft and music workshops, and more. Free, just turn up (booking required for some workshops — see website), 11am-11pm

Sunday

Jacksons Lane, Highgate is showing Shoe Baby -  Adapted from the children’s book by Joyce Dunbar, Shoe Baby is a magical puppet show! A fantastical sing-a-long adventure with a baby who takes to the sea, the air, the zoo all in a shoe! For ages 2-7. 12pm and 3pm.

Arts Depot, Finchley has The Frog and The Princess - Princess thinks Frog's not good enough to be her friend because he's just a frog! Join the Frog and the Princess in an emotional journey from rejection to friendship as they discover that, deep down, they are not so very different after all. For ages 4-8. 11am and 2pm.

JW3 in Swiss Cottage has a Family Fun Day celebrating the Colours of Israel - From London to Tel Aviv via JW3! Celebrate the rich tapestry and colours of Israel in this shuk-style family event! From arts to eating, yoga to dance - we’ve got something for everyone including yoga, crafts, dancing and more. FREE.

Drop in to the Camden Arts Centre for Make and Do - families with children can drop in to the Drawing Studio for practical and creative activities based around the shows. Led by artist Jo Brinton, activities are fun and suitable for all ages. 2- 4.30pm, FREE.

Monday

Lauderdale House, Highgate has a May Day Bank Holiday Workshop - Drop the kids off for a special one-hour arty workshop while you wander round the Market and Food Fair. There will be lots of cutting out, colouring, collage making and glitter to enjoy while they create a beautiful dragonfly collage. 11.30-12.30, for ages 5-7, £6.50.


Head to Markfield Park for Tottenham Ploughman’s Mayfest, an event organised by local people with live music, food, drink and family activities. Free, just turn up, 11am-5pm
