Weekend Round Up - 29th and 30th March



It's Mother's Day this weekend so take the time to do something special and have a lovely weekend.

Saturday 29th

The Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn is showing The Frog and The Princess (pictured above) which looks at what can happen when different cultures meet, using a beautiful blend of puppetry and music that will entertain and delight family audiences. 4-8 years.

William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow has Birds of Prey today - Children and adults will be able to hold one of these awesome creatures.

Lauderdale House in Highgate has a kids show this morning called Mr Squash - puppets and fun - It's Spring and the puppet monsters are out exploring, but creatures they want to get close to run away. Mr Squash entertains with glove puppetry, magic and silliness

Sunday 30th

Got an aspiring ballet dancer or opera singer in the family? Royal Opera House has a family fun day today - Discover more about opera, ballet and the Royal Opera House in a fun-packed day ideal for all the family, with a range of exciting and creative activities on the last Sunday of every month. For children aged 6+. Join interactive dance activities, watch demonstrations, visit the costume wardrobe and more. £5 adults, £3 children.

Mums go free today at The Museum of Brands in Notting Hill - Take yourself back to the family dinner table with treats such as Angel Delight and Arctic Roll, recall those toys which you pestered mum to buy and find out what mum’s favourite tuck-shop goodies were. And with over 12,000 items from the Victorian era to the modern day on display, discover just how extraordinary and kaleidoscopic our consumer culture truly is. Along the way, discover your mum’s love of Spangles, Bagpuss, Sindy, The Bay City Rollers, Aqua Manda...

Mums also go free to the newly opened Museum of Water and Steam at Kew which has a water zone and lots of interactive sections too. 

Arts Depot is showing Big Red Bath - Ben and Bella are in the bath. Splish! Splosh!Splash! Come on a bubbly bathtime adventure. 2pm. Ages 2-5, £7.

JW3 has a Classical Babies concert - live chamber music for babies and toddlers and their mums, dads, grandparents and carers. Concerts are performed by professional musicians in a relaxed, baby-friendly setting where babies can be themselves and parents can relax and enjoy seeing them react to the music!

Competition Time: Win family tickets to see Charlie and Lola's Extremely New Play!

We've teamed up with the lovely people at the Arts Depot, Finchley, to offer a fabulous prize of a family ticket (4 people) to see Charlie and Lola’s Extremely New Play at the Arts Depot between Monday 7 – Wednesday 9 April.



Charlie and Lola are completely excited to be back on stage with their Extremely New Play - and this time they're bringing along Sizzles the Dog! Children aged three and over will love this extra special, brand new show.  Enter a magical journey through the seasons, as Charlie and Lola discover that everything is different and not the same. What happens when Lola and her best friend Lotta say they will honestly and promisedly look after Sizzles? And what happens when they follow Charlie and his best friend Marv on a Pirate Squidbones adventure? Playful, funny and full of surprises, this extremely new play about friendship and adventures is a treat for everyone.


Charlie and Lola’s Extremely New Play uses specially made puppets. The show is presented by five puppeteers and Charlie and Lola appear as cut-out cartoon characters in the same magical world they inhabit in the books and TV series. From pink milk to party rings, everything you expect is there!

North London Mums' Weekend Round-Up 22 and 23 March 2014

Spring is sprung- or nearly- you can tell because there is blossom on the trees, and loads of people running on the weekends to train for the London marathon (including me!). If you feel sporty then the Sainsburys Sport Relief games are on- if not there's plenty of theatre to chill out to!
